DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Vision

Established in 1959, the Department of English at Government College Bundi envisions becoming a centre of excellence in English language and literary studies. The department aims to cultivate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, effective communication skills, and a deep appreciation of literature among students. It seeks to empower learners with global perspectives while preserving human values, cultural sensitivity, and social responsibility, thereby preparing them to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.

Mission

1. To provide quality education in English language and literature at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral levels.
2. To promote critical, analytical, and creative thinking through the study of diverse literary traditions, cultures, and theories.
3. To develop students’ communication, writing, and research skills, enabling them to meet academic, professional, and societal challenges.
4. To encourage scholarly research and academic excellence through the Ph.D. programme, seminars, workshops, and research activities.
5. To foster an inclusive learning environment that nurtures ethical values, cultural awareness, and lifelong learning.
6. To prepare students for higher education, competitive examinations, teaching, research, and various professional careers.
7. To contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of literary and cultural understanding at local, national, and global levels.

Since its establishment in 1959, with the commencement of the Undergraduate programme in English, and the introduction of the Postgraduate programme in 1986, the Department of English has remained committed to academic excellence and holistic development. Today, through its UG, PG, and Ph.D. programmes, the department continues to uphold its tradition of fostering learning, research, and intellectual growth.
