Government Polytechnic College Barmer, an organization under the Department of Technical Education, Government of Rajasthan. It is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and affiliated with the Board of Technical Education Rajasthan. It was established in 1988-89 by the central government under Border Area Development program. Initially, the institute was started with three branches viz. Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Engg. From 2006 a new branch of Petrochemical Engg. was started which was later on converted into Chemical Engineering in 2009.
