INTRODUCTION

Government Girls College Tonk esteemed as the first and the largest post graduate college for women in the tonk district of Rajasthan State.  Government Girls College Tonk is the biggest and top-ranking Post-Graduate women’s college in tonk district. 

Tonk is one of the well-renowned districts of Rajasthan. The city of Tonk is the administrative headquarters of the district. It is situated near the right bank of Banas, just 60 miles by road south from Jaipur. Tonk was also the capital of the eponymous princely state of British India from 1817 to 1947. Tonk has been called ‘Rajasthan ka Lucknow’, ‘Adab ka Gulshan’, ‘Romantic poet Akhtar Shreerani ki Nagri’, ‘Meethe Kharboojo ka Chaman’, and ‘Hindu Muslim Ekta ka Maskan’ . These names designate Tonk a significant status in Rajasthan.

The college has witnessed growth over the years- from offering courses at the graduation  level in art (6) and commerce(3) subject since its inception in 1995 to offering post-graduate courses in History and graduation in - Arts (13), Commerce (3) and Science(5) subject since 2022. Affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand University, Ajmer. The college has successfully endeavored in maintaining its high academic standards.

For nurturing the overall personality of women students, various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are regularly organized including sports- a field in which girl students have earned laurels under able guidance and training. For exploring the latent potential of women students and providing platform for expression, various programs and activities are efficiently organized under NSS, YDC, Rangering and  Rani Laxmi Bai Kendra. The Women’s Study Cell, inter-disciplinary forum, Career and Placement Cells provide unparalleled opportunities for girls to display their creative potentials and talent.

The college is well-equipped with necessary infrastructure like library, administrative block, women’s hostels with comfortable residential accommodation, computer lab, conference hall, smart class room, internet wi-fi facility, the able and qualified teaching faculty.

Endowed with commendable credentials, the college has been accredited “B” grade by NAAC and is also a beneficiary of RUSA.
