Government Polytechnic College, Barmer is an organisation under the Department of Technical Education, Government of Rajasthan. It is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and affiliated with the Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan. It was established in 1988-89 by the central government under the Border Area Development program. Initially, the institute was started with three branches, viz. Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Engineering. In 2006, a new branch of Petrochemical Engineering was started, which was later converted into Chemical Engineering in 2009.
