Formerly a part of the Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University in Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan became a separate entity on August 1, 1987. However, in view of the largest service area and need for emphasis on diverse agro-ecological conditions across the state, the university was bifurcated in 1999 with the creation of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology at Udaipur. The Veterinary & Animal Sciences component also got delineated in the form of Rajasthan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in 2010. In the year 2013, SKRAU Bikaner was again divided into three Universities viz., SKRAU, Bikaner; University of Agriculture, Jodhpur and SKN University of Agriculture, Jobner (Jaipur).
