RAIN WATER HARVESTING

Barmer is situated in the heart of the Indian Thar Desert where scarcity of water is one of the greatest issues. Government College, Barmer aims to conserve every drop of this divine resource.
- A tank is constructed in the depression of campus where surface run off rain water gets collected and stored.
- The college has installed rain water harvesting system. The roof of college building is fitted with plastic pipes that are diverted into storage tanks. Two underground cemented tanks of capacity 120 KL &60KL have been constructed in the college under Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan that serve as collection &storage tanks for the roof top rain water. The roof of college is cleaned before the onset of monsoon to ensure the cleanliness of collected water.
- Water from these tanks is used for watering the plants even during the hot arid summer season.
- Water is collected is overhead tanks through electric driven motors and distributed in the campus through pipes for drinking. Water is made available in water huts and water cooler. Cleanliness committee looks after the regular maintenance & cleanliness of these water areas.
