HISTORY

Maharana Pratap Govt. Post Graduate College, Chittorgarh, ( Rajasthan )  which started functioning in  1962-1963 academic year was initially affiliated to University of Rajasthan and later on  affiliated to MDS University Ajmer and at present college is  affiliated to M.L.S University Udaipur. College was shifted in the present premises as on 1st July 1964 with the student intake was only  152.  Initially this college was opened to teach and train young minds in the faculties of Arts and Science at the Graduation levels and in 1970 Commerce at graduation level was also introduced. Post Graduate studies were introduced in this college from 1977 on words. This College over the years has become a multi-faculty college with more than 4000 students on an average enrolled every year and during this academic session college has the enrollment of 4100 student’s .In the 10th Five year Plan College constructed a Seminar Hall and a Tanis Court with the financial support of University Grants commission.

Our College firmly believes that no educational institution can be academically rich if its library is poor or poorly equipped. With the financial support of the UGC and State Grants  in the year 1975 college established its Central  Library with separate sections for text books, reference books and  a reading room for students .  Over the years in Plan Periods; additional financial support from UGC has enabled us to enrich the library. At present College library has a good number of books both text and reference along with quite a good number of journals/periodicals / news papers subscribed.

Our College has encouraged maintaining the Quality in all dimensions of education. The provision of scholarships for SC /ST/ OBC and minorities is an important aspect of this College as per state government policy. Teachers and other staff members are encouraged to participate in all possible college programmers for vertical and horizontal growth of students and staff. The College provides a unique opportunity of for all round personality development of students through the platform of Youth Development Forum NCC and NSS. The college is actively engaged in research activities also. The students are involved in a large number of such activities like Community Development, Health and Hygiene awareness, Adult Education, AIDS Awareness, Social Work, Environmental Awareness and Blood Donation.
