                        An Introduction

          This college stands in Deeg, ‘the town of ‘Jalmahals’ that lies in the midst of holy pilgrim- centres of Braj – GOVARDHAN and KAMYAVAN’. Deeg has been the capital of Maharaja Surajmal and his posterity. During the reign of Maharaja Surajmal (1748 – 63) and Maharaja Jawahar Singh (1763 – 68) Bharatpur has been a powerful territory. Under the command of these rulers the Jat warriors of this state invaded upto Agra and Delhi and obtained many stone images from historical palaces there and established them in the palaces of Deeg, of them the swing of Noorjahan and Baradari are particularly notable. The fort of Deeg is the best model of age-long grandeur, architecture, and military outflanking. In the old days of Delhi Saltanat, Marathas and Britishers (1805 – 26) many battles were fought here which determined the fate of Bharatpur. Due to ‘Jalmahals’ Deeg is also a popular tourism centre. There are so many flower gardens and beautiful parks in the ‘Jalmahals’.    The coloured fountains of Deeg have gained global recognition and attracted tourists not only from India but from abroad also. Presently the protection of ‘Jalmahals’ is under the supervision of central archaeological department.

          Deeg is a subdivision of Bharatpur district and consists a populace of about 45000. This town lies on the roads that lead from Bharatpur to Delhi, from Alwar to Mathura and from Bharatpur to Alwar. Here is a rich trade market of grain. A fair with the title ‘Jawahar Exhibition and cattle fair’ is organized in the month of Bhadrapada (about the end of August).  Deeg is world famous for its ‘Jalmahals’. 

          This college was initiated on 11th September, 1977 in a part of the fort. In this session only the first year of B.A. was run with the strength of 137 students. Commerce faculty was started in the session 1981 – 82 and Sanskrit subject was initiated in the session 1999 – 2000. English literature was started on graduation label under self-finance scheme in the session 2005 – 06 and sanction for starting science faculty was obtained from the state government during the session of 2007 – 08 for which practical labs accommodated with modern facilities were also built with the amount of Rs. 50, 00000 donated by the government.

          The state government sanctioned science faculty in the session 2010 – 2011. In this session the first, second and third year classes in science faculty are running with the approval of state government. The college has been accredited by NAAC in the session 2005 – 06. In 1998 – 99 a well- furnished building for library was erected with the funding provided by the UGC.  During 9th plan the extension of the new library building has been completed. In the session 2001 – 02 the college was named ‘Master Adityendra Ji Government College, Deeg’ under the order of state government. With the joint cooperation of state government and college development committee the construction of ‘Radhakrishnan Sabhagar’ has been completed.
