INTRODUCTION

This college had its beginning in 1961 then the college was upgraded to post-graduation level in 1977. With a huge building for the college as well as an  adequate  infrastructure facilities, it caters to the needs of the students of even the adjoining districts of Udaipur, Banswara and neighboring districts of Gujarat. Students from even remote areas prefer to be admitted to this college in view of its reputation as an excellent center for learning. The college offers not only under graduate degree in arts, commerce and science faculty but also postgraduate courses in 08 social science and Humanities subjects and in Zoology. In 1977 the PG in Political Science started and in this series PG in Geography statred in 1979, PG in Economics in 1981, PG in Zoology and History in 1982, PG in Hindi and Sociology in 1984, PG in English Literature in 1989 and PG in Sanskrit in 2006. Apart from academic degrees college has proposed to offer five career-oriented courses namely “Certificate in communication and IT skills”, “Certificate in Entrepreneurship”, “Certificate in food and Nutrition”, “Certificate in Tourism studies”, “Certificate in Water Harvesting” under IGNOU. College provides a safe and secure environment to the girls to pursue their studies without any fear. There is committed teaching faculty. Academic standards are high. Research facilities are available.

The College was permanently affiliated to Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. But from the session (2017-18) UG first year and PG previous year classes have been affiliated to newly established Govind Guru Tribal University, Banasawa . University Grants Commission has also accredited this college under section 12(b) & 2 (f) of UGC Act. The SBP Government College, Dungarpur volunteered to be assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and submitted first self-study report to the NAAC. The council, constituted a peer team comprising Prof. Jaya Indrasan (Chairman Coordinator) and Dr. Vincent Braganza (Member coordinator), Dr. B.S. Masih (Member) visited the college from March 02 to March 03, 2005 and interacted with the Principal, Faculty members, Non-teaching staff, Students, parents and alumni  of the college. The college was accredited with “B” ( with 71.25 CGPA) in year 2005.
