HISTORY

Gogunda is a Village Panchayat and Tehsil headquarter situated in the picturesque Aravali hills. Located about 35 kms north west of Udaipur city, Gogunda is well connected by National Highway 76 which runs from Udaipur to Pindwara. This place is historically significant as legendary Maharana Pratap’s coronation (Rajtilak) took place here. The recently announced Mewar tourist circuit of Govt. Of Rajasthan includes Gogunda for this precise reason. The historical fort of Kumbhalgarh, Haldighati, archaeological site of Iswal, Armoury Cave of Maharan Pratap, Mayra ki gufa are all in the vicinity of this historical place. Gogunda Tehsil of Udaipur district, as per the census of 2011, has a population of 2.1 lacs of which 51% are ST’s, 7% SC’s. Gogunda is also an assembly constituency  which is presently represented by Shri Pratap Lal Gameti who belongs to the ruling Bhartiya Janta party.
