History
The Government P.G. College was started as Maharaja High School by the philanthropists of the area with an objective to impart quality education in the then rural area and to achieve the best in life. It was upgraded to inter-college in 1946. It became a Degree College in 1958 having only one faculty arts. Subsequently, the college was taken over by the State Government in the same year. Faculty of Science and commerce was added in 1963 and 1970 respectively. P.G. classes in the subjects of Hindi, Political Science, History, Sanskrit, Accountancy and Business Statistics (ABST) and Chemistry, were started in 1977 and 1990, respectively. It is a Government funded institution. The college is controlled and administered by the Directorate of higher education, Government of Rajasthan. The State Government has also accorded sanction to introduce PG programs in the subjects of Urdu Literature, English Literature, Geography, Botany and Zoology from the year 2007. Law Department of the College has been separated and converted into a Independent Law College in June 2005. College is affiliated to University of Kota, Kota, which was established in 2003. It was affiliated to Rajasthan University, Jaipur till 1987 and then to Maharishi Dayanand University, Ajmer, which was set up in 1987. The college is included in the list of colleges maintained by the UGC under sections 2 (f) and 12 (B) of its Act of 1956 since July, 1958 and has been regularly receiving UGC developmental grants and other assistance as per its entitlement in terms of its enrolment and merit of its projects and proposals for under-graduate and post-graduate programs as submitted to the UGC
