HISTORY

History

 

Nagaur is a place of great historical significance which is located in the North-West part of Thar desert of Rajasthan. It is also the heart of the Golden Triangle of tourism, which is represented by Jodhpur-Ajmer and Bikaner. Nagaur was also mentioned in Mahabharata epic as'Ahichhatrapur''. After 7th century , this city faced many incursions from Central Asia. After Independence of India, Nagaur got the great compliment of being selected as the place in the entire country, where the democratic decentralization process known as ‘Panchayati Raj System’, was launched by the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, on October 2, 1959. This city is also renowned for its world famous Cattle Fairs, hand tools, Masalas and bangle industries.

                The College was established on August 8, 1969. Initially, it was named as Government College, Nagaur, but later renamed on January 28, 1986, by the State Government in remembrance of renowned regional farmer-leader, Sri  Baldev Ram Mirdha, who fought against the exploitation of farmer by the contemporary rulers. The college has a total campus area of 30 acres, out of which about 27,360 square . meter are constructed.

              The College is affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer and it is also recognized by the UGC under 2(f) and 12 B. The College has 16 academic departments running different UG and PG courses and has 3822 students enrolled. The College works under the purview of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Rajasthan. The college has importance not only in Nagaur district but in the whole of Marwar region. The college is recognized by U.G.C. for 12 B and 2F.LLB course was also introduced in 1979. Therefore, in 2005, the State government . upgraded this faculty of law to an independent college, and the College started functioning in the same year on the premises of  SRI BALDEV RAM MIRDHA GOVT COLLEGE NAGAUR (RAJ) .

The college was upgraded to P.G. level with the commencement of P.G. classes in Arts, Science and Commerce Faculty.

1987-88

Chemistry Department  was Upgraded to P.G. level.

1989-1990

Mathematics Department was Upgraded to P.G.Level.
