1. Virtual Labs Nodal Centre
Introduction
Govt. Shakambhar P.G. College, Sambhar Lake, has been selected as a Nodal Center for virtual labs by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through its ICT running under the National Education Mission.
It is a matter of great concern that Govt. Shakambhar P.G. College, Sambhar Lake has become the first Govt. College, under the Department of College Education, Govt. of Rajasthan, to become the Nodal Centre for Virtual Labs in applied sciences after the acceptance of Expression of Interest (EOI) in the month ofNovember, 2020 for setting up a Nodal Centre by Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Delhi, under the subsequent directives issued by MHRD. Delhi has a wireless research lab under Bhartiya School of Telecom looking the coordination for Virtual Labs initiative.
Dr. Priyanka Sharma (Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology) has been appointed as Nodal Coordinator for Virtual Labs. As a nodal center college can conduct regular workshops and demonstrate the virtual labs to the teachers and students over use of the labs and to equip with the necessary skills and knowledge. Regular lectures can also be made more effective by demonstrating certain experiments in class rooms using Virtual Labs platform.
Virtual Labs
Virtual Labs project is an initiative of Ministry of Education (MoE), formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India under the aegis of National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Virtual Labs project is a paradigm shift in the area of ICT- based education. It is a wonderful example of an open educational resource developed by a multi- institution and multi- discipline (with many IITs & NITs) project team, where, IIT, Delhi is the main coordinator. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has a wireless research lab under Bhartiya School of Telecom looking the coordination for Virtual Labs initiative.
The project aims to provide remote- access to laboratories in various disciplines of science and engineering. These would cater to students at the undergraduate level, postgraduate level as well as to research scholars. This would help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation. Virtual Labs Project offers over 120 Virtual Labs (900+ Experiments) in all important domains of Science and Engineering. Physical distances and the lack of resources often make it difficult to perform experiments, especially when they involve sophisticated instruments. With the present-day internet and computer technologies the above limitations can no more hamper students and researchers in enhancing their skills and knowledge. Web enabled experiments can be designed for remote operation and viewing so as to enthuse the curiosity and innovation into students. This would help in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
Objectives
1. To provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. These Virtual Labs would cater to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research scholars.
2. To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity. This would help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
3. To provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated
demonstrations, simulations and self-evaluation.
4. To share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of users due to constraints on time and geographical distances.
Virtual Labs are truly ‘any-place, any-pace, any-time, any type’ Labs!’
