INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS

THE AGRICULTURE FACULTY HAS PERFORMED SO WELL DURING THE SESSION THAT THEY HAVE ESTBLISHED AN VERMI COMPOST PLANT IN THE CAMPUS.THE DRY WASTE OF ALL THE CAMPUS IS DUMPED INTO A PIT TO USE FOR COMPOSTING.THE FACULTY HARVEST THE MUSTURED CROP IN 1.5 ha AREA.THEY ALSO PREPARE NEW SEEDLING FOR MANY PLANTS.

1. Development of Student Instructional Farm

As per direction of Agriculture University Kota, SCRS Govt. College Sawai Madhopur (Agriculture Faculty) has decided to develop Agriculture Farm in North Campus as an Instructional / Demonstration Farm for the fulfilment of practical requirement of B.Sc. (Agri) Students as well as for commercial production along with demonstrations.Around 1.5 ha. Farm was developed, for which fencing work, land scaping, cleaning of land and ploughing work was done. After that Mustard (Brassica juncea) and Taramira (Eruca sativa) were sown as a commercial crops. The rabi crop harvested and Yielded 3 Quintals in total. Five varities of wheat, two varities of barley and five varities of mustard were sown as demonstration crops.

2. Functional vermi compost unit in college

         Introduction- B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri is a four year degree programme. In the College agriculture faculty is affiliated to the agri. uni. kota. for the final year student "Student READY Programme is run by the agri. uni. kota. In 2nd semester in a group have to develop ELP (Experiential               Learning Programme)  unit. For completion of degree programme.

         Purpose of the ELP unit ELP is an opportunity for agriculture students to develop high quality professional competence, skill development and confidence to start their own enterprise. This is a step towards Earn while learn and it helps students become job providers rather than           job seekers.

         Why vermi compost unit is consider- This unit is selected because it require low cost investment .

         Cost of Construction- We have develop 26ft by 20ft area for our unit. in unit we have constructed two beds size 21ft by 3ft by 2.5 ft and  one bed 21ft by 4.5ft by 2.5ft. The unit is fitted with water tap to provide water in vermi beds. The construction cost of the unit is about two lacs.

         Raw material for the unit- Vermi compost unit require verm,leaves and cow dung.

         Species of the verm- Among  epigeic Eisenia andrei  and Eisenia Fetida species are mostly widely used in vermi compost.

         Time require to complete vermi compost- It require about three months to convert cow dung into vermi compost.

The whole unit of vermi compost is handled/run by final year agriculture students in a groups. We get prepared vermi compost and sell among farmers, students and staff members. @10Rs. per kg and received amount is deposited in college account.
