College Overview

GD government College for women ALWAR enjoys the distinction of being a prestigious institute of the district, dedicated to women’s education and empowerment. Established in 1964 by the government of Rajasthan with 135 students, the college today has more than 5500 students on the roll list. In its glorious journey of almost 6 decades it caters to students' academic aspirations in humanities, science and commerce at UG level ; honours in political science; post graduation in political science, Hindi, psychology and Sanskrit and also a diploma course in library science. 
The factors that lend distinction to the college are many. For instance the infrastructure comprises well maintained classrooms of which eight are smart, – – laboratories; English language lab; an automated library that houses – – books, journals, e-journals and other reading material. It is also equipped with INFLIBNET and N list facilities to facilitate the students and faculty in their studies and research projects.

For the all-round development of the students who primarily hail from nearby rural areas the academic curriculum is complemented by co-curricular as well as extracurricular activities. Arts, science and commerce associations, the co-curricular activities committee; the women’s cell and the cultural committee in accordance with the direction from Commissionerate higher education, Jaipur conduct debates, talks, guest lectures, webinars and inter-class cultural activities to provide them a platform for exhibiting their talents. This aspect is also taken care of by NSS, NCC and games and sports department of the college. There are three units of NSS and one unit of NCC. The distinctiveness of the college is reflected and values that it imbibes in its students by the fact that every year since last 10 years at least one get it from the college is selected to the Republic Day parade of Delhi.

Even in sports the students not only participate but also get positions and win medals. The college made its mark internationally when its student Chitra won a medal in Ashu competition held in China in the year 2016-17. Being aware of the economic and social background of the students, the government of Rajasthan and the central government provides monetary aid to the students through a number of schemes in order to facilitate and provide education to all. The college has the distinction of being a supportive medium in this endeavour of the government.
Through 2 of its flagship schemes Kali Bai Bheel Medhavi Chhatra Scooty Yojana and Dev Narain Scooty Evam Protsahan Yojana, the government awards Scooties and scholarship to some of the meritorious students at their entry-level to the college. GD government College for women ALWAR enjoys the distinction of being the nodal college for this distribution in the district.
