HISTORY

Maharani Sudarshan College for Women was established in 1946 by the last reigning Maharaja of Bikaner, Lieutenant-General Sir Sadul Singh, who named it after his wife, Her Highness Maharani Sudarshan Prasad Kanwarji Sahiba. Decades back, in the 50s when girls education was not promoted or a matter of consideration for society, the royal family could understand the exigency of girls’ education and the need of a separate institute of higher education for girls. As a result, today we have this anachronistic college, devoted to impart value and education for girls.

 

The college has been proved a trailblazer in the field of girls education.  Since the time of its constitution the institution has been stimulating knowledge and values in its students, and has become a model Institution for students' success beyond predicted expectations.

Maharani Sudarshan College has now become the largest Girls college in the whole district. With a B grade by NAAC- UGC, the college stands as quintessence of women education.

In the year 1946, the college was established as an inter college, later in 1956 Bachelors in Arts stream was commenced. The year 1957 was the beginning of Bachelor of Science. The three year course as per the new education planning started in 1980. Bachelors in Commerce started in 1981.

The college has been continuously building on its achievements since the time of its inception.

In 1990 Garments Production and Export Management (GPEM) was introduced, which is still a rare subject in colleges, generally. The session 1992-93 is also significant as the college became a Post Graduate college in the year. PG in English, Economics and Political Science started this year, and later PG, Public Administration started in 1999 and PG, Home Science in 2012.

In 2001 ICICI Bank and Rajasthan State Govt signed an MOU to provide placement to girls in the ICICI bank branches. In 2005-2006, B.P.O. English Spoken was launched to increase communication skills in girls. To increase entrepreneur skills the college started Spoken English cum employment readiness program under RMOL (Rajasthan Mission of Livelihood) in 2007. In the same year the college was selected as a model college and Center for Excellence by the State Government. CAT course started  for Commerce Students in 2013-2014.

Various IGNOU courses were introduced in 2017.

From 2017, the college is Nodal college for Scooty Distribution.

In the year 2019, a sixty days ‘Skill Development and Employment Mission Camp’ was organized in association with ROTARY Club Adhya. Girls were trained in fashion designing and stitching. In the closing of the camp 50 Sewing machines were distributed to the girls in need.

 

The college has also made an MOU for next 3 years, with ROTARY Club Adhya and ROTARY Club Midtown, in direction of Commissionerate, to organize fabric stitching and fashion designing training camps for students.

In 2020, during  Covid-19 epidemic college and STTS Infotech Pvt. Ltd. organized one month online English Speaking  and communication course and 10 days personality development course.

The college has incessantly credited admirable growth in the field of women education keeping abreast with the need of time.
