Jaisalmer Fossil Stone: A Geological Treasure

Preserving Fossil Remnants: Our Commitment to Geological Heritage

At our college, we take pride in preserving and promoting the geological heritage of India, especially the ancient fossil remnants found in the Jaisalmer region. These fossilized remains—dating back over 150 million years—offer an irreplaceable window into the Earth’s prehistoric marine ecosystems and are vital to both scientific research and cultural preservation.

Fossil Conservation and Study

Our institution is actively involved in the collection, and preservation of fossil specimens from the Jaisalmer Basin. The fossils, embedded in limestone, include well-preserved forms of ammonites, gastropods, bivalves, corals, and other marine organisms from the Jurassic period.

On-Campus Fossil Display and Repository

We maintain a dedicated Fossil Display Corner where students, researchers, and visitors can explore a curated collection of fossil stones. These preserved remnants serve as valuable educational tools for understanding paleoenvironments and evolutionary biology.

Field Research and Academic Integration

Through organized field visits to fossil-rich sites such as Akal Wood Fossil Park and surrounding limestone quarries in Jaisalmer, students gain hands-on experience in fossil excavation, stratigraphy, and geological mapping. These practical engagements form an essential part of our geology and environmental science curricula.

We believe that protecting these ancient remnants is not just a scientific duty but a cultural responsibility—ensuring that the story of life on Earth remains accessible to all.
