Shri Mishri Lal Sanwal Government Girls College was established on 12 August 1998, on the request of elite class of the city and the Shikhsha Samiti, to fulfill the need of women education, with the aim to provide quality education to a girl student irrespective of caste, creed and economic background. The college was established with a donation of Rupees 51 lakhs from Shri Shiv narain Sanwal in the memory of his father Shri Mishri Lal Sanwal. The college has been therefore named after him. The Rajasthan Government contributed Rupees 50 lakhs.

The college was started with faculty of Arts in History, Hindi Lit., Sociology and Political Science subjects. In the session 2010-11 graduate courses in Science and Commerce and Post graduate Course in Political Science were also started.
