HISTORY

Mukundgarh is a small town near Nawalgarh founded in 1860. It boasts of a fort with huge walls that was briefly run as a heritage hotel but has now shut down because of family disputes that plague so many of the havelis of Shekhawati.

Mukundgarh Fort - Founded by Mukund Singh, entry is not allowed to visitors into this fort. It is said to be under a bank’s control because of an unpaid loan.

Saraf Haveli - This ornate haveli has frescoes of portraits of the leaders who participated in India’s independence movement.

Ganeriwala Haveli - It is a double haveli with marvellous paintings. There is another Ganeriwala haveli, which is known to have some erotic paintings in the past. Maybe they have been taken down; the locals do not know much about it. There are many wells and bagichis in Mukundgarh. A local variety of sweet only made in Mukundgarh is a popular delicacy. Many of India’s famous business families hail from here and Nawalgarh.
