Pratapgarh district is the 33th district of Rajasthan, created on 26 January 2008. It is a part of Banswada Division and carved out from the erstwhile tehsils of Chhitorgarh, Udaipur and Banswara districts. District includes five sub divisions; Arnod, Chhoti Sadari, Dhariyawad, Peepal Khoont and Pratapgarh. It is spread over nothern part of Malwa Plateau made of well fertile black soil. Pratapgarh has a rich historical as well as cultural heritage. District has lush green areas covered with dense forest. Sitamata Sanctuary is adjacent to the district head quarter. This sanctuary is worth visiting due to the availability of rare flying squirrels and highly advantageous medicinal plants and herbs. The environment is totally pollution free and the climate is moderate. Pratapgarh is famous for Thewa Art which reflects on the Balziam glass with golden works. Various fairs and festivals are the life line of this tribal district. The fairs of Goutamesvar, Bhanwarmata, Shivaratri, Ambamata are some of the worth-mentioning events. This district is also famous for the cultivation of opium plants.
Pratapgarh Town is located at 24.03 North Lattitude and 74.78 East Longitude at a height of 580 Mtr. said to be the second heighest place in Rajasthan afetr Mount Abu.
