HISTORICAL PREVIEW

Shri Kalyan Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Sikar situated in the Shekhawati region is a widely known academic institute for girls’ education. The college is located 117 km in North-West of Jaipur in the heart of the Sikar district. The foundation of the college was laid on 02 Oct. 2013 by the name of Govt Girls College Sikar with arts faculty having 160 students. It was started in the infant stage in the building of Hindi Vidhya Bhawan Govt School, Sikar. In 2017, it was shifted to the building premises of Shri Kalyan Govt PG College, Sikar having PG in all subjects of Arts, Commerce, and Science faculties. Abiding by the order issued by the Govt of Rajasthan bearing no. p/6(18)Edu./Group-3/2017 dated 17/12/2017 the college was renamed as Shri Kalyan Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Sikar. Today the college is a renowned higher education institution providing education to 6500 girl students with a staff of 70 people.  

GEOGRAPHY

Sikar is also known as the ‘Gateway of Desert’. It is located in the northeastern part of Rajasthan. It lies between 27.21 Degree East To 28.12 Degree North latitude and 74.44 Degree To 75.25 Degree longitude. It has an average height of 1,401ft or 427m above sea level. It is enclosed by the Churu district in the north-west, Nagaur in the south-west and Jaipur in the south-east. In its northeast corner, it is bound by the Mahendragarh district of Harayana.

Sikar has an area of 7732sq.km, running from south to north. It is divided into two main topographical areas. The district is divided into two parts by the Aravalli hills. The Fatehpur, Laxmangarh, and Sikar tehsils comprise sandy tracts and are single-cropped areas. Whereas, Neem-ka-Thana, Danta Ramgarh, and Shri Madhopur tehsils comprise double-cropped areas.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Sikar city has a population of about 237,579 people according to the census of 2011. The average literacy rate of Sikar city is 77.13 percent of which male and female literacy was 86.29 and 67.37 percent respectively This gives it a ranking of 150th in India, The district has a population density of 346 inhabitants per square kilometer. Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 17.04%.
