 Sirohi region is described as Arbuda in Vedic literature.  Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of Aravalli mountain, is situated at Mt. Abu  in Sirohi District. Sirohi is famous pilgrimage centre for both Hindu and Jain community. The Palaeolithic evidences are reported from West Banas river. Sirohi is having seventh century old Sun Temple at Varman. Besides this, thearere Sun Temples in Basantgarh, Bhainsa Singh and Bhula area. The ruins of famous medieval township Chandrawati , Mawal and Rishikesh are found in the district. Earlier the district was ruled by Parmars. Later in 15th century Deora Chauhan occupied the Sirohi area and paved the foundation of Sirohi. The name Sirohi derives from Sir=head; rohi=desert (Col Tod, 1909). Others think that Sirohi literally means sword. Sirohi was famous for sword manufacturing during British period.  During British time Sirohi state offered land at Mt Abu for the summer capital of Rajputana agency. After independence the present Sirohi region got amalgamated in Rajasthan.
