HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

The College was established as a school in 1925 with a contribution of Rs. 25000 from Maharani Sahiba Kesar Kunwar of Kota. The school was upgraded to an Inter-college in 1946 and then to an Undergraduate College in 1958. Land for the present campus was donated by Independence activist and Social Reformer Padma Vibhushan Smt. Janki Devi Bajaj and the college were named in her honour. The Science faculty was established in 1962, followed by the Commerce faculty in 1977, leading to the development of the college as a multi-disciplinary institute. Postgraduate classes in the Faculty of Arts started in 1992, in the Commerce Faculty in 1996, and in the Science Faculty in 1999.

The College was awarded an 'A' Grade by NAAC in February 2014, reflecting its excellence. With the number of students approaching 10000 during the 2016-17 session, the college was divided into three separate colleges to improve academic and administrative efficiency. The original name and infrastructure were retained by the Science College.

Presently, the college offers two major science Graduate programs, B.Sc. in Biology and B.Sc. in Mathematics, as well as five postgraduate programs: M.Sc. in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology, along with PhD programs.
