Prior to May 2005, the college was functioning as a faculty of law in the parent college i.e., SBRM Govt. College, Nagaur. The faculty was started in the year 1979. Thereafter, in the year 2005, the State Govt. upgraded this faculty of law to an independent College and the College started functioning from the same year in the premises of the parent College. The College has been allotted 17.12 Bighas of land behind the parent college and is functioning in the separate premises since 2018. This is the only Govt. Law College in Nagaur district.
The city of Nagaur is of historical significance. The city was founded by the Nagvanshi rulers in the 4th century BC and a huge fort called ‘Ahichhatragarh’ was built during their reign. About 7th century onwards the Chauhans became the overlords of Nagaur and it was included in Sapadalaksha. Nagaur also known as Ahichhatrapur is the birthplace of the Bhakt Shiromani Meera Bai, Abul Fazal, the great warrior Rao Amar Singh Rathore, Jhunjharji, and the local deity Tejaji who laid down his life to save cows. Nagaur district has the honour to be the place of living and preaching of Sufi Saint Sultan Tarkin, Hamiduddin, Saint Likhmidass, Karmabai, Fulanbai and Ranabai. The city of Nagaur is also famous for introduction of the Panchayati Raj System in the country by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 02 October, 1959.
