CIVIL ENGINEERING

ABOUT BRANCH
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including architectural engineeringenvironmental engineeringgeotechnical engineering, control engineeringstructural engineeringearthquake engineeringtransportation engineeringmunicipal or urban engineeringwater resources engineeringmaterials engineeringwastewater engineeringoffshore engineeringfacade engineering, coastal engineering, construction surveying, and construction engineering

NAME OF LABORATORY

DETAILS OF LAB

1

Concrete laboratory

It deals with the testing of various construction materials such as a cement, aggregate and concrete (both fresh and hardened). Laboratory provides the testing of various properties of cement like-strength, soundness, specific gravity, fineness, setting time and for aggregate like-bulk density, specific gravity, moisture and water absorption, flakiness and elongation index and for fresh concrete like-workability, for hardened concrete like compressive strength.

2

Material testing

This laboratory provides facilities for performing the test on various types of materials like mild steel, HYSD bars, timber and concrete mixes. Instruments available in the laboratory are-U.T.M. Brinell Rockwell Hardness, Izode impact testing, Torsion testing and spring testing machine etc.

3

Soil Mechanics

It deals with the various testing facilities on soil like-dry density, liquid limit, plastic limit, shear strength, permeability, OMC, MDD, swell index and shrinkage of soil with the help of concern equipments which are available in the laboratory. These test are required to design different types of foundations which bear and transfer load to the beneath.

4

Applied mechanics

This laboratory provides the facilities for understand the responses of bodies or system of bodies under external and internal forces. And provides to understand various laws and theorem like-parallelogram of forces, polygon laws of forces, triangle law of forces, lever systems, pulleys systems, friction law, efficiency of different weight lifting machines.

5

PHE lab

This laboratory concerns with the analysis of various characteristics of water and waste water like- pH, turbidity, total solids, hardness, chloride, alkalinity

6

Survey lab

This laboratory provides various survey practices like- chain survey is conducted using different types of chains-metric chain, tapes, ranging rods, cross staff, arrows. Prismatic and surveyor compass bearing are measured and corrected. Levelling is done using Dumpy level, Tilting level and Auto level. By plane table and its accessories, radiation, traversing, intersection and resection method of plane tabling are employed. Laboratory also provides study of theodolite, and other minor instruments.

7

Highway lab

In this laboratory various equipment are available to testing various properties of highway materials like impact testing machine, los angles abrasion machine, Dewal abrasion and attrition testing machine, Crushing value apparatus, sieve shaker and sieves, ductility testing machine, penetrometer, cleavland open cup apparatus, hot plate, flash and fire point, CBR apparatus.
