Director Research

Dr V K Yadav did his Master’s and Doctoral in Biochemistry from IARI, New-Delhi and joined Rajasthan Agricultural University as Asstt Professor in 1986. He is Professor since April 2005 and presently working as Director Research. He has served earlier as Director PME in the University (November 2013-December 2014). As Director PME, he took initiative and published University at a GlanceUniversity Telephone Directory, half yearly news letterSKNAU News and monthly magazine Kheti-Bari. He also initiated ‘Saturday Event’ – a program organizing guest lecture by an eminent scientist on first Saturday of every month. He served as Director HRD during January 2015 – June 2016 and organized three trainings on Computer applications, organic farming and seed technology, each of seven days. Four laboratory manuals were also published by the Directorate HRD. He was selected as Professor and served as Dean, College of Biotechnology and Head, Department of Basic Science in SVBP University of Ag & Tech, Meerut during 2005-2007. During this period he established Center of Bioinformatics, prepared course curriculum of B Tech (Biotechnology) and established six subject wise laboratories in the College of biotechnology. He served as Head, Department of Biochemistry, SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner during 1996-98 and 2008- 2015. As Head, he established Department of Biochemistry in a new building, funded by ICAR/ Govt of Rajasthan and initiated M Sc in Biochemistry.

He has shouldered a number of important responsibilities in the university- Editor/ Chief Editor, Rajasthan Agriculturist  - a College Magazine/ Assistant Examination Superintendent/ Incharge, Technical Cell/ Advisor, Placement Cell, SKNCOA, Jobner; Member, Academic Council / Member, PM&E Cell/ Member, Board of Management, SKRAU Bikaner/ SKNAU, Jobner; Examination Superintendent/ University Nodal Officer, IAUA/ Member, University Publication Committee/ University Administrative Committee/ University Academic  Committee/ University Awards Committee, S V B Patel Univ of Ag & Tech, Meerut.

He has been resource person in several meetings at State /University level. Some of them are ‘Use of tissue culture in Horticultural plant propagation’  Directorate of Horticulture, GOR; ‘Advances in Biotechnology: Issues and Strategies’, RAU, Bikaner; ‘Biotechnology activities in the state’, Department of Agriculture, GOR; Brain storming session on ‘Formulation of Biotechnology policy for the state,’ DST, GOR ‘Biotechnology and its application in Agriculture’, SIAM, Durgapura, Jaipur; Member, working group for the ‘Establishment of Biotechnology Research and    Application Centre’, DST, GOR

His area of research has been abiotic stress and has 45 research publications to his credit. Isolation of salinity tolerant gene from a bacterium isolated from Jobner soil; sequencing & characterization of the gene from this bacterium has been his most significant research contribution. Equally important contribution has been isolation and characterisation of Lathyrus (Dal Khesari) toxin degrading bacterium and identification of gene from this bacterium. He has been awarded NIH Post-doctoral Fellowship in USA to work  on multiple sclerosis at Lerners Research Institute, Cleveland USA. During this period, he has identified targeting sequences of peripheral nervous system PO protein. Prof. V K Yadav has been awarded prestigious JIRCAS fellowship to work for one year at JIRCAS Okinawa, Japan in 2001-2002. He was also awarded DBT National Associate ship and worked at IARI, New Delhi and University of Virginia, USA for one year in 1990. Under Indo-Australian Collaborative Project on Whitegrub he has worked on plant volatiles (semiochemicals) and visited University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia as visiting scientist.

About Directorate

The Directorate of Research is in the process of establishment under  Sri Karan Narendra  Agriculture University at Jobner (Jaipur). The  territorial jurisdiction of this newly created agricultural university encompasses  over three agroclimatic zones out of the ten zones recognized by the Dept of Agriculture, GOR,  and comprise  about  6.4 M ha   geographical area of  the state  covering   districts of  Ajmer,  Alwar, Bharatpur, , Dausa, Dholpu ,  Jaipur  Sikar, Tonk.  At present  17  ICAR funded All India Coordinated Research  Projects ( AICRPs )  and  the  State Government  funded  long term projects  are  already  in  vogue  and  dedicated   to the  needs  of  the three zones along with several   ad-hoc  projects sponsored  by  various prestigious funding agencies . Thirteen of the 17  AICRPs  and  most  state govt. supported projects   are in operation  at  Rajasthan Agriculture Research Institute (RARI),  Durgapura, Jaipur .  This  new university is  working on widening the spectrum of  funding to support  research/developmental  activities particularly to promote the socioeconomic upliftment  of the farmers of this regional jurisdiction. The three zones cover  the cultivation of staple food crops like, wheat, barley,  bajra, mustard , chickpea, pulses , sorghum, groundnut along with specialty  crops like seed spices etc.  

The Directorate of Research will have its function  through   its three zone-wise  Agricultural  Research Stations located at  RARI (Jaipur), Fatehpur-Shekhawati (Sikar)   and Navgaon (Alwar)  and four sub-stations  located at Gonera (Kotaputali) , Diggi (Tonk), Tabiji (Ajmer) and Kumher    ( Bharatpur) . Besides the basic  mandates , the Directorate  is on its way to finalize newer  mandates in light of the State Agricultural Policy of the Dept of Agriculture, GOR and new frontier areas of R & D  in agriculture covering various aspects of Precision Agriculture, Conservation Agriculture, Secondary Agriculture and  Specialty Agriculture etc.
