HISTORY

Nimbahera is situated in the southern part of Rajasthan, 30 km away from Chittorgarh Dist. Headquarters. It is situated between Mewar & Malwa region. Nimbahera is rich in minerals like limestone, Red Occur, China Clay, Laterite etc and this is the reason that it has become the industrial hub of Cement Industries. From agriculture point of view, it is the area of black soil resulting in the production of Cash Crops like Opium, ground nut, Cotton etc. Gunjali, Nimboda, Gambhiri, Kadmali are the Rivers flowing in the region. Chotisadari, Barisadri, Binota, Kanera, Badi, Ranikhera, Arnoda, Nikumbh, Badoli, Keli & Gadola are the villages situated near Nimbahera.

Nimbahera has a very strong history. Prehistoric remains can be seen near the River Gambhiri. Later on, this region was a union of Madras & Sohan civilizations. In the early decade of Nineteen-century, the Nimbahera region went into the hands of Nawab of Tonk a princely state except for a few years during the revolt of 1857. It remained under the same rule up to Independence.

Government College, Nimbahera was established in the year 1977 by the state government in the Industrial town Nimbahera of Chittorgarh Distt. From the year 1977 to 1982 it was run in the Senior Sec. School Building & then it was shifted in the Session 1982-83 to its own newly constructed building. Initially there was Arts faculty. Commerce faculty was started from the session 1983-84. B Sc in Bio & Maths course started from 2003 under Self Finance Scheme (SFS) and after 15 years it undertaken by the Govt of Rajasthan. Post Graduation course (Hindi Literature) has been started from the session 201314 and now, 4 P G Courses are running as M A in Hindi, M A in History, M A in Political Science and M A in Sociology. The college is affiliated to Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Raj.). The college is registered under UGC Act section 2 (f) & 12 (b). The college is accredited by the NAAC with B grade.

The name of the College has been changed by the Rajasthan State Govt. from Government College, Nimbahera to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government College, Nimbahera in the year 2003 and promoted as Post Graduation level in the year 2013-14. Now the name of the college is "Dr. BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR GOVERNMENT P. G. COLLEGE, NIMBAHERA (DIST. CHITTORGARH) - RAJASTHAN".
