INTRODUCTION

The Government Arts Girls College, Kota, established in 2016 is an exclusive girls’ college for the faculty of social sciences and humanities in the region. Twenty-One subjects at the graduation level and nine subjects at post-graduation level (including GPEM and Home Science in Self Finance) make it a very sought-after centre of learning for female students who are keen to pursue higher studies.

The college is still running in the old campus and shares spaces with the other two newly established colleges as the new building of the college is under construction. The overall infrastructure limitations for an overwhelming strength of more than five thousand students do not daunt our spirits. Our faculty strives hard to bring out the best in students as evident in the university results as well as the performance of students in activities within campus and outside. Our students come not only from city but from surrounding remote villages too. The diverse backgrounds of students make classroom teaching a hot seat of learning as well as challenging.

Education is not just a career building but a process of evolution of a person. Our responsibilities become much demanding as our core mandate is women education. The socio-economic profile of the students is also very varied. A sizeable number of students are first-generation learners with very limited exposure and to whom the college is their window to the world. Therefore, all our activities are planned keeping in mind the basic motto of making the students aware of their rights as equal citizens of the country. At the same time, we also take care of developing sensitivity in them towards the society and polity, thereby making them responsible citizens. A big achievement of the college is its association with social and community development work of the region.

Being a girls’ college, we particularly concentrate on women welfare and empowerment. Not only do we support and involve ourselves in implementation of related programs with the district administration but also take many initiatives on our own. Our trade fair for small–scale women entrepreneurs, which has been an annual affair is one of the examples.
