HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

History of the College

Nitya Leelastha Tilkayat Shri Govind Lal ji Maharaj Government Girls’ College was established in August 1998 in the Holy City of Nathdwara, internationally recognized as the Shrine of Pushti Margeeya Shri Vallabh Sampradaya.

In the process of establishing separate College for Girls in Nathdwara. Mandir-Mandal (The Temple Board) looking after the management of the famous Shrinathji Temple played the pivotal role. Having the vision of imparting quality higher education to the rural, tribal as well as local girls and bringing them at par with the fast changing global scenario the Tilakayat of the Temple Shri Govind Lal ji Maharaj extended whole hearted support to the noble cause.

The Temple Board not only provided the lush green, picturesque land in the back side of the famous Lal Bagh, facing to the Giriraj Parbat but also constructed well architecture double storied building having Class-Rooms, Laboratories, Library, Reading-Halls and Administrative Block surrounded with wide open campus and handed it over to the Department of College Education, Government of Rajasthan for the noble cause of upliftment of women education in the region.

In the year of commencement i.e. 1998 Undergraduate classes in the Faculty of Arts with the Subjects History, Political Science, Sanskrit, Sociology and Home- Science were started in the College.

With the benevolent support of the Temple Board and under the auspices of College Development Committee, additional subjects like Music (Vocal), Drawing & Painting, Hindi Literature and English Literature was introduced in the College from the session 2001-02. In the same session B Sc (Home-Science) course in the Faculty of Home-Science was also initiated. Post-Graduate Course, MA (Sanskrit),   was introduced from the session 2006-07.  Later on keeping pace with the time, in view of the rising interest of the students, Faculty of Commerce was also added in the College from the session 2010-11 and MA (Hindi) was added in 2013-14 and MA in English in session 2021-22.

During the 2022-23 session B.Sc in Biology (Botany,Zoology and Chemistry) and B.Sc in Maths(Physics,Chemistry and Maths ) have also been introduced at Undergraduate level and M.A. in Home Science has been introduced at Post Graduate level.The College now offers courses in all the  major streams Arts,Commerce , Science and Home Science.
