Government college Kekri-At a Glance It was with this view and vision that the present Govt. College Kekri was initially started way back in 1976 as a private co-educational undergraduate Commerce institution under the name of Indira Gandhi College. The aim was to cater to the needs of higher education in this somewhat rural area far from the metrocity of Ajmer which in fact had a number of schools but no college at that time within the radius of sixty kms. Soon a better sense did prevail upon the State Government and only the following year i.e. 1977 it was taken under by the Govt. In 1981-82 – the faculty of Arts was added – yet another feather in the cap of higher education in this part of the district and an apparent recognition of the major efforts and intent of the local people, who with open hearts and coffers did raise funds and gett the building constructed about three kms away from the town. Institutions grow like trees. Some die young – owing to the paucity of support and finances. Some live for some time till the support continues. Their very existence depends on the support but some gain roots and begin to grow on their own. Govt. College Kekri falls in the third category. It gained roots, developed productions and by now has almost become a young oaken stature – with the faculty of Science (commenced in 2008-09) and it has raised to the status of PG College with the initializing of M.A. classes of History in 2012-13, Pol. Sc. in 2013-14 and Geography, Hindi in 2022-23. M.Sc classes of Zoology, Botany and Chemistry in Year 2022-23. Currently, various subjects are taught at the college level for B. A., B. Com. and B. Sc. degrees. History,Political Science, Hindi and Geography are the four postgraduate subjects in arts and Zoology, Botany and Chemistry three postgraduate subjects in science are offered.
