INTRODUCTION

Realizing the importance of higher education for the inclusive development of the nation, the expansion of higher education to the small towns and cities of India was aimed at. With this vision, Seth Mohan Lal Jalan Government College was established in the year 1990. The generous philanthropist Seth Shri Tola Ram Jalan in fond memory and tribute to his late father Seth Shri Mohan Lal Jalan provided the Main building of the college to the people of the Ratangarh feeling the importance of the higher education. At the time of its inception it started with arts faculty only. From there on numbers of Students and Faculties have  increased significantly. Today college is also having Commerce and Science Faculty started in the year 1991-92 and 2008-09 respectively. Thus providing with options to the student of the region to choose according to their field of interest. Presently Seth Mohan Lal Jalan  college is affiliated with Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner.

                      Though situated in relatively backward region there is a gradual increase of awareness for the need of higher education in rural India by different programmes and schemes run by the state government. There is a gradual increase in the number of students enrolled in the college every year. At present the number of regular enrolled students in the college is 1344 and about 2000 are enrolled privately. Thus the college is examination centre of about 3350 students.

                     College is also equipped with a well maintained library with the number of  books increasing every year. At present there are more than 14000  books. Apart from these books Journals of various subjects are  subscribed in the library. Books for General Knowledge and Magazines are also provided to the students of the college.

                    The most attractive feature of the college is its huge campus of about 30 acres with play grounds for different sports and games. Campus is full of greenery with about 500 trees and plants of different species.

                    Year 2000 stands as an important landmark for the college as in this year college was incorporated under section 2(f) and 12-(b) of the UGC act 1956. Thus college is eligible for grant- in- aid  released by UGC from time to time for overall development of the college. Other than UGC, State Government grants are the main source of  infrastructural facilities development received  every year. State Government is realizing the importance of  ICT education for making and shaping of modern India thus a lot of importance is paid to provide students with computer education. Thus a computer Lab with Internet Connection and other latest amenities is also available to the students so that they can connect to the global world.
