INTRODUCTION

This tribal populated area of Banswara district is surrounded by the beautiful Aravali ranges. The geography and the natural richness of the district is very profound. The place is known for various historical, mythological and natural spots. The huge dam on the Mahi river has changed the entire scenario of the place. It has resulted in the irrigation and cultivation of the traditionally famine hit land which is now producing all major crops throughout the year. During the rainy season the district of Banswara becomes the Shimla of Rajasthan. Nature lovers have given it the name of “A city of Hundred islands” because there are a number of beautiful spots in the Mahi bank water. Chacha Kota is one of such attractive natural spots which are visited by thousands of people during monsoon. The place is also famous for tribal festivals on the religious places like Beneshwar, Ghotiya Amba and Tripura Sundari which are the centre of great devotion and faith of the local people. These places are associated with great legendary stories from the ancient myths. Also the southernmost part of Banswara district adjoining Gujarat “MANGARH HILLOK” is known for the great battle between the tribal men under the leadership of the freedom fighter shri GOVIND GURU and the British regiment, some hundred years back. The place has been developed recently as memorial in the name of the tribal heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. As a mark of respect and reverence to the great freedom fighter and social reformer shri Govind Guru, the government has named this college after him “SHRI GOVIND GURU GOVERNMENT COLLEGE” which was previously known as Government College, Banswara.
